Hello again! How have you been? Good to see your lovely faces!
I've been back from my adventures in Germany for almost a month now and it's taken me a while to get back into the swing of things. I'm working on new color schemes since it is the fall. In the near future there will be photos of hair accessories with more autumn inspiration and items ready for evening wear.
Wish me luck on getting stuff made!

You could say I've been busy
So with the craft fair coming up this weekend I need to kick my butt into gear! So far I've made 21 hair clips and 7 headbands, my goal is to have 60 pieces total so I need to get back to work!
Still no glue gun burns! A small victory in the process of making these lovely hairpieces.
It's terribly hard to concentrate on making these today. It's sunny outside, and for those of you not from Juneau, it's kind of a rarity and I really want to go outside, but I also really need to get back to work.

Working for the Weekend
This week is going to be very busy and work filled for me! Friday Choco Boutique is having their annual fashion show so I get to make lots of feathery hair clips for that. They've been really easy to work with and I absolutely love their shop!
This Saturday and Sunday at the Nugget Mall there is a craft fair that I need to make a ton of my wares for. I've been having a lot of fun sketching ideas of and figuring out color combinations for those.
I'm lucky that I haven't suffered any glue gun burns from this rush of productivity (of course as soon as I start working again I'll get burned). More updates to come as more clips and head bands are created!

This is my lovely work station in my mom's condo. Of course my supplies are also strewn all over the counters and floors. |

More tag making and exciting news!
In a flourish of me not wanted to get my apartment more feather infested before I move of campus I went on a hunt this morning in search of more tag making supplies, and some inspiration for more hair accessories.
On my travels I found some lovely large weathered looking roses, and some ivory colored feathers and biots for an amazing future hair clip (just you wait).
Upon my return to my apartment I found some lovely flowers resting on my door knob which made me super happy and excited to make things. But I need to wait until I move so I don't have to clean my living room a ridiculous number of times!
But onto my super exciting news!
Choco Boutique, where I have recently been allowed to sell my lovely creations, has invited me to make some pieces for their annual fashion show. For which I get to make some larger and more extravagant head wear than usual, and I am greatly looking forward to it! They also want to use the ones I make for the formal wear for a photo shoot after the show. I'm really excited for this opportunity!
For those who are interested in checking out my wares stop by Choco Boutique located at 220 Front St. Juneau AK. Or check out my Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/hpkit89

Let's get ready for this business
Since I started my Etsy shop about a month ago, I figured I'd look around town to see if there were any local shops that would be interested in selling my wares.
I've been working diligently the past few days making price tags, creating headbands, creating hair clips, and inventory lists. It's been a fun way to end the stress of finals week and start summer!
Even though I haven't made very many sales on my Etsy yet I've been getting a good amount of commissions locally and have been having fun making those and the ones that are now for sale at Choco boutique. And of course making a few hair clips for myself along the way
Lucky for me Juneau has a copious amount of boutiques that I was able to pop into and inquire at.
After five or six shops I wandered into Choco Boutique and to my luck they were more than willing to sell my hair accessories!

Hello World!
So this is the start of my blog to go along with my Etsy shop Flora and Feathers, and to start it all off I figured I'd introduce myself and what my shop is about.
My name is Hollis I am 21 years old and I live in Juneau where I am currently working toward my BA in Art with an emphasis in ceramics and drawing. I have been obsessed with making things since before I could walk, and absolutely love making things that are both beautiful and functional.
I started making hair clips and headbands for myself and a few friends about a year ago. We were making them for fun, to socialize, and to procrastinate from doing our other projects (mostly). After a while my friends suggested I try selling them, but I waited for a while until after I had figured out a good layout and color balance and how to put them together cohesively.
My Etsy shop is more about trying to make some extra cash (not that I don't want that too) but it's about finding a little freedom in something that no one is assigning me to do. I'm not doing it for a grade or for approval from the art world. It's me doing what I enjoy and putting my work out for the world to see whether they like it or not.
Now that I'm done with my finals for the semester and summer time is here I am excited to get to work making more hair accessories for anyone that wants them.
